BEEFMASTER ALLIANCE 21ST AUCTION
The Beefmaster Alliance “coming of age” auction, held at Manjoh
Ranch on August 5, was once again a resounding success. At this
21st annual sale, a turnover of R3 150 750 was fetched for 149
head of cattle.
The highest price was R58 000 for a five-year-old bull,
MAJO5-0633, bought by Dr Coetzee Badenhorst of D&K Farming,
Fochville. He also paid the second highest price of R45 000 for a
bull.
A total of 107 bulls came under the hammer, realising a turnover
of R2 757 500 and an average price of R25 771. In total, 42
females in calf were sold for R393 250, averaging R9 363 and a
highest price of R12 000 each for a lot of four. The buyer was Dr
P.A. Pretorius of Warden.
Mike Combrink of Kinross bought the most bulls, 11, at an average
price of R21 000, totalling R231 000.
Buyers came from as far afield as Namibia and Botswana.
Six buyers from Namibia bought 19 Beefmaster bulls for R579 000.
They were Louis Opperman, Gobabis (four bulls R111 000); Wolfie
Schierschmidt, Gobabis (four bulls R98 000), Gys Joubert, Dordabis
(three bulls R114 000); Diekman Farming and H.D. Farming,
Otjiwarongo (six bulls R192 000); and Dr A. Hentzen (two bulls R64
000).
Botswana cattle farmer Andrew Magogwe bought two bulls for R39
000. It was his first visit to the auction.
The auctioneers were Optima from Heilbron.
